Tim Watson – Sunday Afternoon
3 stars out of 4

Smooth Jazz Radio 365. Summer Review:

I’ve been following Tim Watson's music since the 'Soultopia Days'. I'll be the first to admit though that this piano player is not your 'typical' jaw dropping 'chops & licks master'. On the contrary it's his way with melodies and ideas which invite themselves into your atmosphere, and before you know it your hooked!

His latest effort 'Sunday Afternoon' is set to (10), smooth and nicely laid grooves starting out with what I predict will be the CD's 'stunner' 'Soulfood'! Following are a number of tracks that define Tim's style to the letter, another of my personal favorites is the smooth and clever 'Timology 101'. You'll also find a very good cover of Anita Baker's 'Angel', along with my personal 'Latin flavored' vibe 'Rita's Prayer'.

If you're a smooth 'hook and phrase' lover you'll enjoy this project to the fullest. Tim Watson's 2006 release, “Sunday Afternoon”. It’s a collection of original compositions that will invigorate music lovers of the genre. His piano playing is clean, not cluttered with fancy maneuvers’ and will stimulate his listeners.

I also found it enjoyable that he incorporated 'flute' and 'vibraphone' work here as well, he's been coined as the 'addictive' writer and it's those sweet hooks and clever ideas that make this CD an even more satisfying listen. '.
